South Shropshire Access Group was set up in 1993 and ever since has been working together with disabled people, South Shropshire District Council and other organisations to raise awareness of the needs and problems disabled people have in relation to access issues.

The major achievement the group has had is persuading the rail company to provide ramped access to the south-bound platform at Ludlow Railway Station.

The Group has also succesfully asked the Highways Authority to provide dropped kerbs throughout the South Shropshire District.

The group has a good working relationship with the District Council and its Access Officer and for some years now the Council has offered Disability Access grants which are sent to the Group for consultation.

The access group is available for consultation on development proposals to try to ensure that access issues are addressed at an early stage.

Our current Chairman Richard Phillips is also Mayor of Ludlow and past Chairman of South Shropshire District Council. He is currently a District Councillor and Town Councillor. For contact details and current members of the Access Group Committee please click.

The Group has produced an Access Guide to Ludlow which details the accessibility of premises in and around Ludlow. To access or download the guide please click here.

It is hoped that Access guides to other towns and villages in South Shropshire will be available in the future.

The Access Group meets bi-monthly generally in Ludlow at the Bishop Mascall Cantre but also arranges at least one of its meetings eleswhere in the distrcit. To access meeting dates please click here.
